Haifa - the third-largest city in Israel (after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv ), and the most beautiful one, located only an hour drive away from TLV, is the city of my childhood where I grew up in, until my early 2oth.
Sadly, since the death of my beloved mom, who resided in the city until 3 years ago, and now is buried there, I hardly frequented the city.
Although the city’s most iconic sites are the verdant Mt Carmel, the immaculately off cascading landscaped terraces - UNESCO rated Bahá'í gorgeous Gardens with its gold-domed Shrine of the Báb. as well as the city's charming historic German Colony, with its small boutique hotels, housed in 19th-c stone made structures,at the foot of the gardens, dotted with shops, galleries and restaurants, Haifa's vibrant
"City's Center" is elsewhere...

Bahi Gardens Haifa's Commercial Port German Colony
Recently the upscale Hotel Botanica- Limited Edition By Fattal. was added to the list of 10 best hotels at that German Colony charming neighborhood

This northern Israeli port city, which I already wrote about in a previous post , was built in tiers extending from the Mediterranean sea up the north slope of the original Mt Carmel, and although it has several remarkable neighborhoods, in each of the main three tiers, its true
city's Center stretches along its fantastic Beach Strip, situated at the foothills of the mountain, 8 km south of where Haifa commercial port is located..
Haifa’s fine sandy white beaches, the beautiful sea water, and well tended promenades, dotted with trendy restaurants, minus TLV crowds, are a great attraction for the locals, as well as the incidental, out of town visitors.

Thus after the beautiful and tasty Seder meal, hosted at the home of our darling daughter Inbal &family, in TLV, the family decided to change the scenery, and spend the second Passover Holiday, during which the promised forecast, warn against unusual heat wave weather, yet, perfect for a short retreat at Haifa beach.
we headed toward my childhood town
The Grands sang the Passover's 4 Questions.the best ever..
The reasonable 2 BD apartment rental, at the Almog Building, right on the Haifa beach strip, allowed us to spend 2 fun relaxing days .

Haifa's sequence of promenades of about 10 km, include bike paths, pedestrians' trails, playgrounds and sport stations along Haifa's bathing beaches. The Boardwalks connect Dado South Beach to Bat Galim at the North end.

Walking the promenade
Bicycle parking facilities, water taps and refreshment centers are also found along the paths which runs very close to the water
During early mornings and at sun down the pedestrian traffic swells on the boardwalks, which becomes a vibrant hub of activity, for walkers, runners Yoga classes or folk dancing, while the blueish Mediterranean water fills in with colorful wave and wind acrobatic surfers. as well as swimmers and divers.
Also off Bat Galim Promenade, Haredi posed for "Marin Commando"

A Cable Car nick-named by the residents in honor of past Haifa's mayor
"The Balls of Gurel" connects the Northern Haifa's beach strip from the Bat Galim Promenade, all the way up to , the top of the Carmel ridge at
Stella Maris Monastery area. providing a fantastic panoramic view of Haifa and its bay .

One of the better eating places along the beach strip,, offering a variety of good Mediterranean fusion hearty food and great ambiance, right on the beach
In addition to enjoying the beach, and promenades, wondering the alleys of the historical lower tier of the city, by the Sea Port, is a fun activity we shared as well.

This hip area is dotted with old structures (mosques churches) small businesses, Turkish market, high rise office building sticking out like a rocket, reconstructed student housing, and promising eatery establishments,
Wallas Fountain at Paris Square

At Paris Square - the public square in this down town area which is also known as Hamra Square or the Churches District, built during the Ottoman period. stand out a sample of this famous fountain . It is situated at the corner of the square's Tube station,
The same beautiful Wallas Fountain, is found under the plane trees and in the squares, of Paris France where they still deliver quality water

since 1872 their elegant silhouette symbolizes the richness of the urban heritage of Paris
After seeing Paris suffer from a water shortage during the Prussian siege and the Commune, a wealthy British heir in love with Paris decided to offer Paris “drinking fountains”.
Sir Richard Wallace sketched this elegant and ingenious fountain. The sculptor Charles-Auguste Lebourg realizes it. Perched on a pedestal, under a dome with a decor inspired by nature and the aquatic world, four caryatids protect a trickle of fresh water.
The philanthropist offered fifty copies of the fountains in Paris.
In 2011 after the Haifa's Paris square was refurbished, Paris City Mayor gifted Haifa
with this one Wallas fountain
Al Jarina Grand Mosque -

The late 18th-c Al Jarina Mosque, dating back to the Ottoman era is topped by an early-20th-c minaret that looks a little like a provincial English clock tower. It is located near by, east of Paris Square
It is the second oldest mosque in Haifa after the small mosque.
In 1901, the Ottomans built the clock tower adjacent to this building as part of several towers erected in honor of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. It was called “Al-Jreena” because of the large stone yard in front of it dedicated to grain intended for export abroad via Haifa Port at that time.
The mosque functions for worshipers only
The Pedestrian "Natanzon St" off Paris Square

Mayan Ha-Biera - an iconic Haifa eating establishment , is popular at this area

A culinary experience of hearty Jewish food which encapsulates the heart and soul of Haifa frozen in time.

Palmer Gate is the Palms entrance street to the Haifa 's Commercial Port (the largest of Israel's three major international seaports, Port of Ashdod, and the Port of Eilat.).
The narrow alleys next to this main street are host to a rejuvenation of real estate and culinary establishments, attractive to the locals and incidental visitors.
